Annual Graham Nuthall Lecture
This year John Hattie, Professor of Education & Director of the Visible Learning Laboratory, University of Auckland presented:
Visible Teaching - Visible Learning: The Ingredients of Successful Learning in our Classrooms
This session used the results of 800+ meta-analyses and then build arguments as to the central role of making learning visible to the teacher and the student. It related to Graham Nuthall's research about the power of the peers in the classroom and helping teachers understand the world of learning through the child's eyes.

The Hidden Lives of Learners
The Hidden Lives of Learners takes the reader depp into the hitherto undiscovered world of the learner. It explores the three wrolds which together shape a students learning - the public world of the teacher, the highly influential world of peers, and the student's own private world and experiences. What becomes clear is that just because a teacher is teaching, does not mean the students are learning.
This book is the culmination of Professor Graham Nuthall's forty years of research on learning and teaching. It is written with classroom teachers and teachers of teaches in mind. But realising time was short and his life's work was laid out in learned papers for fellow researchers, he wrote this brief but powerful book for a much wider auidence as well; for all those seeking a better understanding of classroom learning.
This book can be purchased for $39.95 from the New Zealand Council of Educational Research. Website: http://www.nzcer.org.nz/, or email: sales@nzcer.org.nz .

The Graham Nuthall Research Trust wishes to thank all our generous supporters for their contribution to the charity auction.
Your generosity contributed to the success of the event. Overall we raised a total of $26,590 including auction bids, ticket sales, lucky dip prizes and donations. It was an enjoyable evening with a top auctioneer, jazz, food and wine at an excellent venue.
The amount raised goes to the scholarship fund which provides an annual award of $10,000 to a qualified teacher or scholar to undertake research on how children learn in the classroom and what influences their understanding. In addition, we hold seminars for educators on results of the award work and other research adopting the methods and principles Graham used in his forty years’ study of children’s learning.
